Winding Road - stories from the road

Winding Road fabric line was created to honor my grandmother, Stephanie, and her two daughters, Norma Rose and Laura Marie. (you remember Norma Rose fabrics - )

Today I'd like to share a small story with you - about a spoon I found in a drawer.

One day while visiting my Aunt Laura, I came across a spoon. A single teaspoon, in a silver pattern I had never seen. And, it was engraved!

I asked her about it and she told me the story of a trip that grandma, my mother and she had made - to the Chicago World's Fair. What a sight it was for them to see all of the things promised for the future! Because, after all, they did listen to all the radio shows about outer space....

But this exhibitor, was a silver maker. And visitors each received an engraved spoon.

For those of you that have ever joined me for a meal at my table, know my placesettings are a mix matched set of engraved silverplate. Not with the World's Fair information and date, but, that engraved teaspoon stuck with me. I now have it my "special drawer", just like Aunt Laura kept it. And I do cherish it, even to this day. What a bright and shiny future they all had to look forward to!

I wanted to design a quilt pattern that also reflected the magic of the future - and so I created the pattern World's Fair. I hope you'll enjoy making this simple project.

And that you'll enjoy these little snippets of stories about the new fabric line Winding Road, designed by me, and produced and sold by Windham Fabrics.

Happiest Days.

Natalie.
